The 17,000 square-foot Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center is located on 12 acres of land. It is a special attraction to Pagosa Lakes and is used by many of the property owners.  The building provides a weight and exercise machine room, swimming pool, 1,500 sq. ft. general purpose room, 2 courts that can be used for racquetball, handball, walleyball and basketball.

In addition to the main building there is sand-volleyball court, a small playground, a picnic gazebo and outdoor basketball court. There are locker room facilities for both sexes and 2 family changing rooms.

After a very successful fourteen-year run, the Pagosa Lakes Triathlon will be reborn this year as the Pagosa Duathlon.  For more information on the "Do-the-Du ... Pagosa Duathlon" go to http://www.acvap.org/duathlon.html.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't use the Recreation Center. Why are my Association dues being used to support it?
The Recreation Center is a major contributor to the desirability of property in Pagosa Lakes. Property owners using the Recreation Center pay a user fee in addition to a small portion of their annual PLPOA dues that goes towards the Recreation Center.

Some permanent residents avoid using the Recreation Center during summer months, spring break and Christmas vacations because the facility is crowded.
The facility is taxed by maximum usage during the above-quoted peak times by interval (timeshare) owners, seasonal residents and guests of permanent residents. Currently the locker rooms and weight room are urgently in need of expansion. The Recreational Committee has already begun work on a long-range plan for the Recreation Center building expansion to accommodate increasing numbers of users.

Why do we continue to allow sponsored guest memberships?
Until recently, it was fiscally responsible to maximize Recreation Center income by making the facility available to sponsored guests of a property owner. For the first five years or the Recreation Center's operation, crowding was never an issue. With more families relocating to Pagosa Lakes, as well as increasing numbers of their guests and visitors, plus the busy timeshare seasons, the Recreation Center is certainly a busy place. But in order to continue to serve visiting guests of a property owner, the Recreation Center will have to keep its punch passes and sponsored guest fees.

Why is it so difficult to get a court reservation for racquetball?
There are two racquetball court/handball courts. One of the courts has a basketball hoop. This court is very popular and fully booked for basketball most evenings. In the warmer months of the year, a large number of the basketball demand can be routed to the outside court.

My skin itches after I use the pool and hot tub.
The water in the pool and hot tub washes off the body's natural oils causing the skin to dry out. This dryness of the skin is further compounded by the arid air that is characteristic of this area. If you lived in a humid area, your skin wouldn't dry out nearly as much even after being in a pool and/or hot tub. A complete soap shower followed by a generous application of a mild emollient on the skin will generally alleviate some of the itchiness.
